Kennett After-School Association Staff

Although the size and scope of the program has grown considerably, After-The-Bell is coordinated by a paid staff of only two full-time and three part-time employees.

» Kathleen Meehan Do: Executive Director

KMD Headshot Fall 11 copy Kathy earned her B.A. in Political Science from the State University of New York at Binghamton. She has worked as a community liaison and a communications and policy writer in both government and higher education. She has served in the administrations of former NY Governor Mario Cuomo and former U.S. Congressman Joseph Sestak, as well as in the administrations of a number of colleges in the northeast. She has a special interest in public education and is the author of the Congressional Report “Rockland’s Voices: Making the Case for Amending the No Child Left Behind Act of 2002,” which was cited as the nation’s first broad-based review of the impact of the controversial law on local communities, and was highlighted during debates regarding the law’s reauthorization.

Appointed Executive Director in August 2014, Kathy is very committed to education and our local community. She has lived in Kennett Square for more than ten years and has been very active in public schools. She has served as a member of the Unionville-Chadds Ford School Board of Directors and Chaired the UCF Curriculum & Education Technology Committee. She has also served in leadership positions for the UCF District’s Education Foundation, PTOs, and After Prom Committee. With strong ties to both Unionville and Kennett Square, Kathy is Committed to extending support for After The Bell to the larger area community.

» Dawn Doherty Kohl: Program Director

Dawn was recently named the new Program Director for After-The-Bell, after serving as Activities Manager since August 2015. She first joined After-The-Bell as a volunteer in September 2014 – having both of her sons in Kennett Middle School at that time. She works closely with the staff and faculty at KMS in order to provide the appropriate, fun and new activities to best meet the needs of the students through the After-The-Bell program.

Dawn earned her BS in Finance and Economics from Frostburg State University and attended Johns Hopkins University for her Masters in Finance. Dawn and her family have lived in Kennett Square since 2001. She and her husband are raising two teenage sons in the KCSD.  Dawn loves our schools and making a difference in our community!

» Braulio Cervantes: Activities Manager

Braulio Cervantes

Braulio was born and raised in Chester County. He graduated from Octorara High School in 2011 and obtained an Associate’s Degree in General Studies from Delaware County Community College. Braulio began working towards his Bachelor’s in Biology at West Chester University and plans on completing it at Lincoln University. After completion he will apply to medical school.

Braulio has a great deal of experience working with children. He served as a summer camp teacher at Tick Tock Early Learning Center from 2009-2013, and currently teaches catechism at St. Rocco Parish in Avondale, Pa. Braulio enjoys working with nonprofits that enrich the lives of others.

  » Maricela Ayllon: Attendance Specialist
Paola-Rosas-WeedMaricela has been working with families for 14 years. She started with the Chester County Intermediate Unit, then with Families of Chester County, and, in addition to her position at ATB, she currently serves as the Family Services Director at Tick Tock Early Learning Center. Maricela earned her CDA at Delaware Community College. She has an active Safe Serve Certificate and is a trained Spanish-English interpreter. Maricela has been doing translations at Tick Tock and volunteers to do translations in the KCSD school district for the schools and PTOs. Her strong family service background and her excellent translation skills make Maricela and invaluable addition to the ATB family.

» Community Volunteers

In addition to the staff members,More than 100 program, committee, and board-level volunteers ensure that After-The-Bell runs smoothly each year. Program volunteers serve as activity facilitators, activity assistants, snack helpers, and desk helpers. All program volunteers must undergo background checks including criminal and child abuse clearances. All new volunteers must attend a mandatory orientation and training which include program and organizational overviews, mandated reporting, as well as safety and emergency procedures. *Please visit our Volunteers page for more information.
